This specific apartment is an efficiency on the second floor. Range and refrigerator are provided. The kitchen has oak cabinets. There is a window air conditioner that cools the apartment. The bathroom has tub and shower both, a new medicine... cabinet and vanity, and new flooring. The apartment is quiet and private and perfect for a graduate student who desires just such an environment.
This large wood Italianate from the "Victorian" Architectural Era stands proud on the corner of North 9th Street and North Street after the bold restoration conducted on it in 1997. Beautiful leaded glass doors adorn the entries on both North and 9th Street. The doors were restored in 2020.
This building was originally built at the end of the 1800's by the Wilkes (husband and wife team) who ran a millinery, shoe and hat store out of the first floor shops and had their living space and boarding rooms in the second floor. The original address on North street had a small log home that was destroyed by fire prior to the Wilkes building this structure.
The exterior of the building was restored beginning in 1997. Each apartment floor plan is unique which is one reason why on site viewing is required. The building's hot water boiler provides comfortable heat in the winter months. The paved lot provides private off street parking for the tenants. A private laundry facility for the tenant usage is also available. This building is convenient to downtown and the Arts and Market District which offers shopping, art galleries, coffeeshops and many various dining opportunities. With all utilities paid, the apartments within this building are very affordable and desirable.
